Shauna has always had a strong desire to help others, wanting to be like her mum, a theatre nurse – but with a weak stomach that wasn’t quite possible. She has had a love of food and cooking from a young age, cooking at home with her mum whilst acting like they were on their own cooking show. At school she always thrived during science, and later on chemistry, biology and nutrition classes – the perfect mixture for nutrition science and dietetics. These interests and skills naturally developed into her studying a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics at Flinders University and becoming an Accredited Practising Dietitian. During this time she worked part time in a cafe as a barista and in a restaurant, volunteered in a community kitchen and completed a nutrition project for an aged care home.
Shauna prefers to focus on promoting healthy habits rather than weight loss and believes that all foods can be included as part of a healthy diet, what’s more important is the quantity and overall diet quality. Having seen a Dietitian herself as a teenager, Shauna understands the importance of actively listening to clients and individualising nutrition advice. She has a strong interest in gut health and has completed FODMAP training with Monash University.
Shauna has 2 family dogs which she named after food, of course – Cookie and Jaffa. She enjoys playing netball on the weekend, going for walks, spending time with her friends, eating out and trying new recipes in the kitchen. In her spare time, Shauna also enjoys posting on her social media account (@thedietitianspaige on Instagram) where she aims to debunk common nutrition myths and share easy recipes.
